Sworn in as President of the Republic, Antonio José Seguro wasted no time in saying what he came for or going into the field, pointing the finger at the government, asking for more action and fewer words. Analysis by Pedro Marques Lopes and Pedro Siza Vieira, moderated by Paulo Baldaia, in Bloco Central
In his inauguration speech, he reaffirmed the thesis that the implementation of a budget does not imply the automatic dissolution of Parliament, directing the weight of responsibility for a political crisis from the opposition to the government.
Also reaffirming his desire to be a cooperative, but demanding President, he confirmed that he intends to call the parties and health professionals to the Belém Palace to establish a pact for the medium term in the sector.
For him, who had warned in the campaign that he would veto the labor legislation that appeared in Belém without an agreement in the Social Concertation, the government reserved the day of the inauguration to convene the social partners and on that same day it was announced by the employers’ confederations that the negotiations had come to an end without an agreement. The President did not appear weak and insisted that the conversation continue.
When a President arrives, there is another who leaves and we here will also talk about the legacy that Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa leaves us.
