At issue were posters by André Ventura with the phrases “This is not Bangladesh” and “Gypsies have to obey the law”.

The Public Ministry (MP) filed the investigation opened after several complaints to Chega posters about Bangladesh and the gypsy communitya source from the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) confirmed to Lusa.

“The investigation was closed,” said the source, confirming news reported by several media outlets.

On November 11, Lusa reported that the MP had opened an investigation into these complaints related to the posters, citing the PGR.

The same source added that the investigation was taking place at the Lisbon Regional Department of Investigation and Criminal Action (DIAP), without giving further details.

At issue were posters of the presidential candidate André Ventura, leader of Chega, with the phrases “This is not Bangladesh” and “Gypsies have to follow the law”.

At the end of October, eight gypsy groups announced that they would file a complaint with the MP against the posters, and would then also consider filing a precautionary measure.

Following the installation of the posters, the SOS Racismo movement also filed, at DIAP in Lisbon, a criminal complaint against André Ventura and other Chega deputies for discrimination and incitement to hatred and violence.

At the same time, the National Elections Commission (CNE) concluded that the posters did not constitute an “electoral offense” and indicated that it would forward the complaints received to the MP.

The Commission for Equality and Against Racial Discrimination also reported that it had forwarded three reports on the same subject to the MP.

On November 10, 2025, six people entered the Lisbon Court, in turn, with a personality protection action against André Ventura so that the leader of Chega would be forced to, within 24 hours, remove the posters.

André Ventura called this action a “political move” and assured that he would only remove the posters by court order, for understand that you’re right in what is stated on the ‘billboards’.
