Drivers must be scratching their heads: Oh, in which country fuel prices have risen the most in the EU!

  • Fuel prices in Germany rose the most among all European Union states.
  • According to data from the European Commission, Germany has become the leader in fuel price growth.
  • Diesel prices without taxes in Germany increased by forty-four percent compared to the pre-war period.

Fuel prices in Germany have risen more than anywhere else in the EU as a result of the war in the Middle Eastthe German Antimonopoly Commission announced on Thursday. TASR informs about it based on the report of the DPA agency.

“The latest data from the European Commission on fuel prices in 27 member states show a clear picture: Germany is the leader in price growth,” said Tomaso Duso, chairman of the German government’s independent advisory body.

Diesel prices excluding taxes and fees at gas stations in Germany are 44% higher this week than they were a week before the start of the war, he said. The average for the EU is 29%. In the case of petrol, prices in Germany increased by 29%, while across the EU they rose by 16%. By comparison, the price of oil, from which fuel prices are derived, increased by 27% in the monitored period, Duso added.

“The fact that price growth in Germany is significantly higher than the European average indicates that we need to address structural problems in the oil market,” concluded the head of the antimonopoly commission.
