Alentejano, from Moura, would come to live in Lisbon and began writing very early. First function: journalist in the area of sport. He worked for the newspapers A Bola, Record, O Século and Diário de Notícias.

Still in journalism, he would become responsible (director or chief) in several newsrooms. He also became a well-known face on RTP, where he presented the program “Great meeting”also about sport.

On radio, Zambujal was on the famous “Bread with Butter” on Rádio Comercial, alongside Carlos Cruz. A very unique voice, marked by humor, irony, orality.

To theAt the age of 15 he was already writing fiction. A short story, in the weekly “Os Ridículos”.

His first book was also his most famous: Chronicle of the Good Rascalspublished in 1980. It gave rise to film and television adaptations.

He wrote other works: Stories from the End of the Street, At Night Soon, Out of Hand, First as Ladies, among many others.

Mário Zambujal also wrote television scripts.

In 1984 he was distinguished as an Officer of the Order of Infante D. Henrique. He received the Gazeta Merit Award, granted by the Journalists Club.
