The minister reversed his decision after Itamaraty informed the STF that the visit constituted ‘undue interference in Brazil’s internal affairs’
The minister Alexandre de Moraesof the Federal Supreme Court (STF), denied this Thursday (12) visit of US special envoy Darren Beattie to former president Jair Bolsonaro in the 19th Battalion of the Military Police of the Federal District (PMDF), known as “Papudinha”. Previously, the magistrate had allowed the reserve captain to receive the advisor of the American president, Donald Trump.
A revaluation of the previous decision took place after the Itamaraty responds to the magistrate’s request to send more details about the purpose of Beattie’s visit to Brazil. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the meeting between Bolsonaro and the North American special envoy “may constitute undue interference in the internal affairs of the Brazilian State” due to it being an election year in the country.
