Injured and possibly disfigured is Iran’s new leader, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said today, questioning his ability to lead after nearly two weeks of US and Israeli attacks against him.
Khamenei has not appeared publicly to Iranians since being elected on Sunday, and his first comments came in a statement read by a television anchor on Thursday. In it he promised to keep them closed and called on neighboring countries to close US bases on their soil or risk being targeted by Iran.
An Iranian official said on Wednesday that the newly appointed supreme leader was slightly wounded but continued to carry out his duties, after state television had described him as a war casualty.
“We know that the new so-called-not-so-supreme leader is injured and probably disfigured. He gave a statement yesterday. . It was a written statement,” Hegseth told a briefing.
“Iran has many cameras and many voice recorders. So why a written statement? I think you know why. His father, dead. ».
