The initiative, organized by Casa Fernando Pessoa and Campo de Ourique Parish Council, brings together almost two dozen publishers and booksellers and includes free programming with cinema and performances.
A book fair dedicated solely to poetry will take place at Jardim da Parada, in Lisbon, between the 19th and 22nd of March, in an initiative that includes book presentation sessions, workshops, cinema and readings.
Under the pretext of celebrating poetry month, almost two dozen publishers and booksellers come together over four days to showcase their catalogs, in what is the only book fair dedicated exclusively to this literary genre, announced the(Equipment Management and Cultural Entertainment Company), in a statement.
Anyone who visits Jardim da Parada on these days will be able to find several works by contemporary poets, Portuguese and foreign, and renowned authorson display in an outdoor showcase.
This is an initiative organized by and by which goes beyond the simple exhibition and sale of poetry books, also counting on a free entry scheduledivided between Casa Fernando Pessoa and the Cinema Europa Library/Cultural Space.
The fair opens with cinema and performing arts, showing the film “Bruta Aventura em Versos”, by Letícia Simões, at Cinema Europa, at 6:30 pm, and the performance “Every pier is a longing for stone”, with Cláudia Andrade and Pedro Salvador, at Casa Fernando Pessoa, starting at 7 pm.
On World Poetry Day, which will be celebrated on March 21st, Casa Fernando Pessoa will have free entry, with a guided tour, at 4pm.
The Cinema Europa Library/Cultural Space will welcome editors and authors throughout the days in book presentations and conversations, with the organization highlighting “O grande bread”, by poet and fiction writer João Pedro Porto, with Paulo José Miranda, on the 20th, and “Velas de Ignição”, by poet and essayist Durs Grünbein, with Miguel Cardoso and Maria Teresa Furtado, on the 21st.
The Extended Poetry project once again decorates the neighborhood’s facades with verses written on colorful flags and offers flags with verses and poems, in the museum and library, between 11:00 on the 19th and 19:00 on the 22nd.
Among the verses, selected based on suggestions sent by the public, this year there are words by poets Ana Paula Inácio, Miguel Manso, Inês Dias, Manuel António Pina, Gisela Casimiro and Ana Paula Tavares, alongside verses by Fernando Pessoa and his heteronyms.
