US Embassy in Baghdad attacked by drones

The action took place just hours after bombings against the pro-Iran armed group Kata’ib Hezbollah, which left 3 dead

The United States embassy in Baghdad, Iraq, was attacked by drones in the early hours of Saturday (14 March 2026), just hours after US bombings against the armed group, which left 3 dead.

This is the 2nd attack against the North American mission since the beginning of the war in the Middle East. The United States embassy is located in Baghdad’s Green Zone, an area that concentrates diplomatic missions, international institutions and government agencies. The attack comes amid attacks between the United States, Israel and Iran.

Iraqi armed factions aligned with Tehran have claimed daily drone strikes against US troops and installations, prompting the United States and Israel to retaliate against these positions.

The US bombing against the Hezbollah Brigades killed 3 members in a residence that served as the group’s headquarters in the upscale neighborhood of Arassat, known for housing pro-Iranian factions.

Shortly afterwards, another drone attack hit a vehicle in eastern Baghdad, causing another death, according to members of the Hashd al-Shaabi militia.

The Hezbollah Brigades are part of a coalition of former paramilitaries integrated into regular Iraqi forces, but maintain a history of independent actions.

The group has not yet commented on the recent attacks.
