has proposed an international naval mission to maintain the strategic Strait of Hormuz, an artery of international oil trade currently under blockade by the Iranian Army, and that it remain “open and safe.”
The president has expressed his desire that “countries affected” by the closure of the strait join this mission. The president, who has not given deadlines on it, has specifically mentioned his “esperanza“that countries such as “China, France, Japan, South Korea or the United Kingdom” accompany American ships to reopen the strait.
In his message published on his Truth Social platform, Trump assures that “100% of the (Iranian) military capacity is destroyed” they have been carrying out for two weeks just before acknowledging that it is “easy for Tehran to send a couple of drones, place mines or launch missiles along the strait, no matter how defeated they are.”
“Hopefully, China, France, Japan, South Korea, the United Kingdom and other countries affected by this artificial restriction will send ships to the area so that the Strait of Hormuz is no longer a threat from a nation that has been completely decapitated,” the president said.
“Meanwhile, the United States will mercilessly bomb the coast and continue sinking Iranian ships. One way or another, we will soon make the Strait of Hormuz open, safe and free,” he concluded.
Shortly after, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi mocked Trump’s initiative, who “begs others, including China, to help make Hormuz safe.”
“The famous security umbrella of the United States has proven to be full of holes and to be an incentive rather than a deterrent in the face of problems,” Araqchi noted in a post on social networks. “Now he is turning in others, including China, to help him make Hormuz safe“, he added.
“Iran calls on its brother neighbors to expel the foreign aggressor, especially as long as their only concern is Israel,” the Iranian Foreign Minister continued.
