This Sunday night (15) was marked by the 2026 Oscar awards and with Brazil competing in five categories — and not taking any home —, there was no shortage of memes on social media.
The film “The Secret Agent” was nominated for four awards, including Best Film, Best International Film, Best Cast and, in addition to the nomination of Brazilian Adolpho Veloso for “Dreams of a Train”. But unfortunately, we came back empty-handed.
Check out the best reactions to the Oscar results
Initially, Brazilians reminded X (formerly Twitter) what really matters:
Of the Oscar nominees, I only watched Secret Agent, so if Wagner Moura doesn’t win, he’ll be robbed, it was Trump boycotting Latinos
— nena (@nenazete)
As the night came to an end, some reactions showed, including trying to pinpoint culprits:
The Secret Agent lost the Oscar for Best Casting just because it was Gwyneth Paltrow who gave it
always this woman tormenting the lives of the Brazilian people
— gabu (@gabu_moon)
wagner moura you didn’t lose the oscar, the oscar is the one who lost you!
— joão🍂 (@r0maniaxpascal)
Wagner Moura did not win the Oscar for Best Actor and The Secret Agent did not win Best International Film.
— Sergio Santos (@ZAMENZA)
everyone knows that the important thing is to be called for after
— mel (@meltedvideos)
Other losses and victories were also highlighted by X users:
Imagine winning the Oscar for a horror film, the film’s only nomination, and only having 14 minutes of screen time
— ray (@itshinner)
diane warren losing ONCE AGAIN the Oscar for best original song, there are already 17 defeats for her in the category LOL
— thomaz (@thisdracarys)
In addition to some jokes that only Brazilians will understand:
The Secret Agent will WIN the Oscar for Best Picture! 👏
You can favorite it and charge me later. I’ve never missed an Oscar winner. Forecast is not twisted. Respect my gift!
