Senescal Brewery, an independent craft brewery based in Castro Marim, won a silver medal in the National Homemade and Craft Beer Competition (CNCCA) 2026, held in Lisbon, with Brave Heart beer. The result represents the fourth national medal obtained by the brand in four consecutive years.
Brave Heart is a Wee Heavy Scotch Ale, brewed with Portuguese heather and local pine needles, combining the tradition of Scottish beers with ingredients from Portugal.
Brewmaster Gabriel Silveira highlighted the importance of the distinction achieved by the small Algarve brewery: “Winning a fourth national medal is a huge source of pride for a small independent brewery like ours”, he stated. “It makes the launch of our crowdfunding campaign even more special, as we invite the community to be part of the creation of Senescal Royal Taproom in Castro Marim.”
Crowdfunding campaign starts on March 17
The announcement of the distinction comes on the eve of the launch of a crowdfunding campaign, scheduled for March 17, which aims to raise 55 thousand euros.
The objective is to increase the brewery’s production capacity and create the Senescal Royal Taproom, a space that will allow residents, expatriates and visitors to sample craft beer directly at the brewery, reinforcing the link between the project and the local community.
Project gains prominence in the Algarve artisanal panorama
In recent years, it has been gaining recognition through the CNCCA, establishing itself as one of the most consistent craft beer projects in the eastern Algarve.
With the launch of the crowdfunding campaign, the brewery now intends to involve the public in the development of the project and open a new phase in the brand’s growth.
