Funeral for doctor killed in police action takes place this Tuesday (17), in Rio

Andrea Marins Dias’ wakedoctor killed during an action by the Military Police of the State of Rio de Janeirotakes place this Tuesday afternoon (17), at the Penance Cemeteryin the Caju neighborhood, Port region of the capital of Rio.

The farewell ceremony for the 61-year-old woman starts at 1pm and takes place in the location’s “Chapel 9”. The burial is scheduled to begin in the late afternoon, around 4pm.

After the action that resulted in Andrea’s death, the police officers involved in the case have been removed from external activities while the incident is investigated. The corporation reported that an Administrative Disciplinary Procedure (PAD) was initiated to investigate the conduct of the agents.

Understand the doctor’s death

The doctor was shot last Sunday (15), during a police chase in Cascadurain the North zone of Rio de Janeiro. The case occurred during a Military Police patrol of the State of Rio de Janeiro, after reporting that a car was involved in robberies in the region.

The police were unable to say, however, whether the vehicle driven by the doctor was the same one that had been identified as suspected of participating in the robberies in the region.

An investigation by the Civil Police of the State of Rio de Janeiro was carried out at the scene, and the report must indicate the origin of the shots that hit the doctor. The Capital Homicide Police were called and are investigating the case. The Civil Police reported that efforts are underway to clarify the facts.

Who was Andrea

With a degree in medicine from Uni-Rio, Andrea was a gynecologist and general and oncological surgeon, working for over 28 years in caring for women’s bodies and health.

With more than 2 thousand followers, the doctor published tips and information about the area in which she worked. Furthermore, she was the creator of a specific responsible method to help women with endometriosis seek early diagnosis and make safe decisions about treatment. She was the author of an ebook made with the aim of informing more about women’s health and illness.

A week before her death, the doctor made a post highlighting your profession. In another post celebrating her birthday, she stated that her purpose was to continue “helping other women”.
