Israel says it killed Iran’s national security chief

According to the Israeli Defense Minister, Ali Larijani was shot during a nighttime air raid in Tehran

The Israeli Defense Minister, , stated that Iran’s head of National Security, , was killed on Monday (March 16, 2026) in a night air strike in Tehran. The statement was made by Katz this Tuesday (17th March) during a cabinet meeting, according to the newspaper. Iran has not confirmed the death so far.

The (Israel Defense Forces) announced in a social network X that Ali Larijani was “eliminated”. They said he was the “effective leader of the Iranian regime” after , on February 28th.

“During the most recent wave of protests against the Iranian terrorist regime, Larijani personally oversaw the massacre perpetrated against Iranian protesters.”the statement states.

Israeli forces that the commander of the Basij paramilitary force, Gholamreza Soleimani, was also killed. “Under Soleimani’s command, the Basij unit led major repression operations in Iran, employing extreme violence, mass arrests, and use of force against civilian protesters.”says the publication.

Israel has carried out daily bombings of Iranian territory, mainly against Tehran, since the beginning of the war. The Israeli Army claimed to have carried out air strikes “on a large scale” against the Iranian capital on Monday night (16 March).

The Chief of Staff of the Israeli Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir, commented that the US Army has collaborated in the offensive against Iran.

“We continue to concentrate forces and conduct precise and targeted ground operations. Cooperation between the IDF and Centcom [Comando Central dos Estados Unidos] continues to strengthen, with joint actions that contribute to better operational results. We will continue to act firmly to eliminate threats to Israel’s residents.”said Eyal Zamir on Tuesday morning.
