Vienna/Hirtenberg – In connection with two prisoners who died in the prisons (JA) Hirtenberg and Vienna-Josefstadt, internal judicial investigation reports do not shed a good light on the penal system. With regard to a mentally ill prisoner who committed suicide in Josefstadt correctional institution in May 2025, a report by the specialist group for suicide prevention in prisons comes to the conclusion that the man was a “high-risk case of suicide” and was “not adequately housed”.
