Procon-BA receives spectrophotometers that identify tampering at stations during inspections
The government of Bahia purchased, for R$600,000, FTIR-630 spectrophotometers to detect adulteration in fuels. The presentation of the equipment was made this Wednesday (18 March 2026), at the headquarters of the Consumer Protection and Defense Superintendence, in Salvador.
The FTIR-630 model spectrophotometers are high-precision equipment that identify adulterated fuel during inspection operations at stations throughout Bahia. The technology allows rapid analysis of the chemical composition of fuels and detects changes such as dilution with solvents, irregular addition of substances or improper use of dyes.
According to the government, the main advantage of the devices is the speed in obtaining results. Procon inspectors can immediately ban pumps with adulterated fuels during inspections.
Initially, spectrophotometers will only be used to identify fuel adulteration. The expectation is that, in 2026, the technology will be used to combat fraud in alcoholic beverages.
“This device represents an advance in sample collection and results, strengthening the fight against fraud throughout the State”, stated the superintendent of Procon Bahia, Tiago Venâncio.
At the same event, the ANP (National Agency for Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels) signed a technical cooperation agreement that will allow teams to be trained to work together. The document also delegates administrative police powers to Procon-BA to monitor on behalf of the ANP.
