One dead in Iraq in early morning Israeli-American bombings

New bombings in the early hours of this Thursday by Israeli and US forces on barracks and positions of the Iraqi militias of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) left one militiaman dead and several injured, one of them in critical condition. This is reported in a note by the Popular Mobilization Forces, also known as the Popular Multitude, a conglomerate of mostly pro-Iranian Shiite groups that is integrated into the Iraqi Armed Forces.

The attacks occurred in Saladin province, in the city of Baiji and near Al Siniya airport. The most serious bombing was that of Al Siniya, which caused the death of one of the militiamen and injured several others. “Evacuation efforts are seriously hampered by the constant presence of enemy aircraft, which have deliberately attacked ambulance teams on repeated occasions,” the statement added.

In recent weeks, in the context of the war that began on February 28 between the United States and Israel against Iran, several sites of the Popular Mobilization Forces in Iraq have been hit by missiles and bombing from Israel or the United States, according to local authorities.

On March 10, unidentified aircraft attacked the PMF 40 Brigade headquarters in the town of Dibis, Kirkuk Province, Iraqi Kurdistan, killing five of its members and wounding four others.

Days later, on March 14, a US bombardment against a building in the center of Baghdad that housed a headquarters of this militia caused the death of a commander of the missile unit and two other militiamen, in addition to civilian injuries, while on the 17th another air attack in the Iraqi capital left at least five dead, including two PMF leaders and an Iranian advisor, after hitting a house in the Jadriya district.

The Iraqi authorities have condemned these bombings, calling them “treasonous attacks” and denouncing violations of national sovereignty, while the Iraqi Government has reiterated its rejection of its territory being used to attack neighboring countries and has warned that these actions undermine the security and stability of the country.
