Lula confirms Durigan as Finance Minister

The department’s executive secretary replaces Haddad, who leaves the position to run for the São Paulo government in October

The president (PT) confirmed Dario Durigan as Minister of Finance. The announcement was made this Thursday (March 19, 2026), during the 17th Federative Caravan, held at Expo Center Norte, in São Paulo. Durigan replaces (PT), who leaves the ministry to run for the São Paulo government in the October elections.

“Comrade Durigan, who will be Fernando Haddad’s replacement at the Ministry of Finance. Take a good look at his face, because from now on he is the one you will be demanding”said the president addressing the future minister.

This Thursday (19th March), at 7pm, Minister Fernando Haddad will give an interview to journalists at the ABC Metalworkers Union, in São Bernardo do Campo, to announce his pre-candidacy for the government of the State of São Paulo.

The Federal Government announced this Thursday (19th March 2026) investments in areas such as health, urban mobility, housing, education and public security during the opening of the 17th Federative Caravan, held at Expo Center Norte, in São Paulo. The president (PT) participated in the event alongside the vice-president (PSB).

Ministers Margareth Menezes (Culture), Luiz Marinho (Work and Employment), Wellington Dias (Development and Social Assistance), Simone Tebet (Planning and Budget), Luciana Santos (Science, Technology and Innovation), Márcia Lopes (Women), Marina Silva (Environment and Climate Change), Gustavo Feliciano (Tourism), Paulo Teixeira (Agrarian Development and Agriculture) were present. Family), Sônia Guajajara (Indigenous Peoples), Guilherme Boulos (General Secretariat of the Presidency), Gleisi Hoffmann (Institutional Relations) and Fernando Haddad (Finance).

Among the measures announced are the transfer of R$5.1 billion to the program which will serve around 15 million families, replacing Gas Aid and tripling the number of beneficiaries, with direct delivery of 13 kg cylinder refills. A US$500 million credit line from Caixa Econômica Federal was also announced, in partnership with the World Bank, to finance energy transition and electromobility projects, including a pilot project with the City of Praia Grande, on the coast of São Paulo.

In the scientific area, the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation delivered 4 beamlines for the Sirius particle accelerator, in Campinas, with investments of R$230 million; 3 lines were part of Phase 1 of the project and the 4th, Tatu, was part of Phase 2 of the New PAC (Growth Acceleration Program). The Ministry of Education invested R$46 million in the acquisition and renovation of the Federal Institute of Cotia building.

In housing and mobility, the Ministry of Cities announced investments from Minha Casa, Minha Vida in small municipalities in São Paulo, with R$41.7 million for 315 housing units, and another R$118 million for the acquisition of 83 electric buses for São Paulo. The Ministry of Ports and Airports announced the transfer of R$68 million to complete the demolition of the Nova Avanhandava channel, in the Tietê waterway, ensuring safe navigation and expanding the operation of the hydroelectric plant and the National Interconnected System.

The event is part of the Federative Caravan, organized by SRI (Secretariat for Institutional Relations of the Presidency of the Republic), which aims to bring the Government closer to municipalities, presenting public policies, programs and financing opportunities, with stands, workshops and spaces for dialogue to support mayors and technical teams in local management.
