US does not want responsibility for attack on Iranian gas reserves. The head of the Secret Service said he did not know the Israeli Government’s position in relation to a possible agreement.
The director of the United States Secret Service, Tulsi Gabbardstated this Thursday that Washington and Israel have different objectives in the conflict over Iran and that the US was not involved in the Israeli attack on an Iranian gas reserve.
In a hearing before a committee of the Chamber of Deputies, Tulsi Gabbard reported that Israel has focused its strategy on eliminating Iranian leadershipincluding the supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was on the first day of the joint attacks, on February 28.
Assessing the latest events, the Israeli strategy seems to be to eliminate top figures in the Iranian regime once again reaching the heart of power in Tehran, with the death of , described by Israel as one of the main faces of the Iranian leadership, and the head of the Basij militia, Gholamreza Soleimani.
The strategy, which follows a logic already applied in Gaza and Lebanon, was dubbed as “decapitation strategy”but according to analysts cited by , they are not enough to bring down the Iranian regime. The approach weakened groups like Hamas and Hezbollah, but did not eliminate them.
What does the US want
Gabbard clarified that the objectives of President Donald Trump’s Government go through destroy Iran’s ability to launch and produce ballistic missilesas well as neutralize your Navy and mining capability.
However, the US is offering a reward of 10 million dollars (about 8.7 million euros) for the deceased ayatollah’s son, Mojtaba Khamenei, and other Iranian leaders.
The head of the Secret Service said unaware of the position of the government of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahuregarding the possibility of an agreement with Tehran. Gabbard also stated that she did not have information about the motivations that led Israel to attack the South Pars gas field, the largest in the Islamic Republic, stressing that the United States was not previously notified.
“I have no knowledge of their deliberations or the calculations that led to the launch of this or other attacks,” declared Gabbard, denying any American involvement in the operation.
On Wednesday, Trump had already said he had no prior knowledge of the Israeli attack, adding that Israel will not target Iranian energy infrastructure again unless Tehran attacks facilities in neighboring countries.
