At a difficult time for his Government, when allegations of corruption directly involve him or point against the main figure in his cabinet, the president undertook a new tour outside Argentina. The destination this time is Hungary and the purpose is to strengthen the president’s ties with the country. Milei’s main activities in Budapest will be this Saturday and will include a meeting with Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and participation in the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC).
Just seven days ago, Milei completed almost an entire week of traveling around the world: she was with Donald Trump in the United States, at the Shield of the Americas summit; Then he was in Chile, for the inauguration of José Antonio Kast; and closed his tour in Spain, where .
His journey of meetings with ideologically related leaders will continue in the Hungarian capital, where he arrived this Friday. On the morning of this Saturday, he is scheduled to meet with the president of Hungary, Tamás Sulyok, at the Sándor Palace, and at noon, at the Carmelite Monastery of Buda, with the national-populist Orbán. The harmony between Milei and Orbán already had the opportunity to be exhibited during the Argentine’s inauguration, at the end of 2023 in Buenos Aires, and also, a month ago, in Washington, during a campaign promoted by Trump.
The rest of Milei’s activity in Budapest replicates the usual schedule of his visits abroad. On Saturday afternoon, the ultra president will speak at the closing ceremony of the CPAC – a conservative forum in which he has participated on several occasions – and will be received by the head of that organization in Hungary, Miklós Szanth. Abascal will also be there. Milei will then be honored at the Ludovika University of Public Service and will receive the title Civis Universitatis Honoris Causa.
Unlike previous trips, the entourage that now accompanies Milei is small. According to the Casa Rosada, it is only made up of his sister, Karina Milei, general secretary of the Presidency, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Pablo Quirno. The delegation that traveled on the previous tour triggered the latest corruption scandal that affects the president.
While passing through New York last week to participate in Argentine Week 2026, the official delegation included the wife of , who is not a public official. The explanations that Adorni attempted complicated it even more and, before ending by apologizing, he left serious doubts raised about the correspondence between his standard of living and his salary as a minister, which is around 3.5 million pesos (about $2,500).
Adorni’s situation became even more complicated when it was learned that, last February, he traveled on a private plane to Punta del Este, Uruguay, with his family. The Chief of Staff assured that he paid the tickets himself, but in the judicial file, opened after complaints filed by opposition legislators, it appears that the one-way flight cost him $4,830 and that the payment was made by Marcelo Grandio’s television production company Imhouse SA. This is a journalist who is a friend of Adorni and whose firm was hired by public television, an area administered by the Chief of Staff. The return flight to Buenos Aires, according to the local press, was paid by Grandio to a Uruguayan pilot who resells tickets. If confirmed, it could constitute the crime of gifts.
In addition, Adorni was denounced for alleged illicit enrichment. The accusation was brought to justice by Congresswoman Marcela Pagano, who came to Congress on Milei’s ballot and then distanced herself from the extreme right. This file points to a house purchased in 2024 by Adorni’s wife, Bettina Angeletti, and which does not appear in the official’s sworn declaration of assets. There is the option of it being included in a reserved annex to the statement, but neither the minister nor his lawyers have said that this will be the case. Adorni is a close collaborator of Karina Milei and, until now, has been supported by the Executive.
The other case of corruption that besieges the Government these days is that of cryptocurrency $Libra. The launch of this digital asset, on February 14, 2025, was disseminated by Milei on its social networks as a private project aimed at encouraging the growth of the Argentine economy. Thanks to presidential support, the value of $Libra it soared, but soon fell sharply, as the businessmen behind it withdrew capital. Thousands of people lost investments estimated at 100 million dollars, while a few made juicy profits.
Milei defended himself by saying that he had only shared a link that he had seen on the Internet, but the delayed judicial investigation cast serious doubt on that excuse. According to journalistic revelations in recent days, judicial experts found on the phone of businessman Mauricio Novelli, one of the people investigated in the case, an alleged contract for five million dollars in exchange for Milei’s support for the project. In addition, they detected dozens of calls from Novelli with Milei, Karina Milei and close officials, on February 14, 2025, before and after the launch of $Libra.
One of the hypotheses investigated indicates that Novelli, together with the businessman Manuel Terrones Godoy and the then official of the National Securities Commission Sergio Morales, were intermediaries between Milei and the American businessman Hayden Davis, the person in charge of the logistics of $Libra and who met with the president at Casa Rosada, before launching the cryptocurrency.
On Novelli’s phone, investigators also found various messages in which he alluded to alleged payments of $2,000 and then $4,000 a month to Milei, for his services as an economist and promoter of his firm N&W Profesional Traders. The business relationship between the two would date back to 2021 and would have continued during Milei’s presidential term.
