Meet Eduardo Cavaliere, the youngest mayor in the history of Rio de Janeiro

At 31 years old, former vice-mayor took office this Friday (20) in the capital of Rio de Janeiro

Eduardo Cavaliere (PSD)aged 31, took over the capital of Rio de Janeiro this Friday (20) as the youngest head of the municipal Executive in the city’s history. He takes over from Eduardo Paes (PSD) who left the city hall to run for state government in October this year.

Attorney, Cavaliere is one of the mayor’s closest subordinates and worked as an aide in his campaign for the state government in 2018. Graduated in Law at Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV), He was in charge of Rio’s Municipal Environment Secretariat between 2021 and 2022.

Quickly, he gained the trust of the mayor’s closest circle and the incumbent himselfand, and ended up becoming secretary of one of the most important departments in public administration: the Civil House, between 2022 and 2023. As Estadão showed, Cavaliere is seen as a pragmatic, loyal and severe politician.

Em 2022, was elected state deputy with 33,688 votess, but decided to take leave and return to the Civil House of Paes, where he remained until the 2024 elections. Alongside the mayor, he was elected on the PSD’s “pure-blood” ticket for the capital of Rio de Janeiro.
