The lifting of sanctions aims to respond to the rise in energy prices caused by the I attackIsrael and the USA to Iran. In a message written on the occasion of the Persian New Year, Iran’s new supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, proclaimed victory over the two countries in the ongoing war.
The United States suspended until April 19 sanctions on Iranian oil stored on ships, foreseeing the release on the market of 140 million barrelsto contain the rise in fuel prices caused by the war in the Middle East.
In particular, the US Treasury Department on Friday authorized the sale and supply of Iranian oil and oil products loaded on ships before March 20.
The Secretary of the Treasury, Scott Bessant, announced the decision and estimated that the measure will add approximately 140 million barrels to the oil market.
“Iran will have difficulty accessing the revenue generatedand the United States will continue to exert maximum pressure on its ability to access the international financial system,” said Bessent.
However, Iran reported on Friday that has no oil surplus available for international markets.
“Now, Iran does not have any availability of oil, at sea or to supply international markets, and the Treasury Secretary’s statements are aimed only give hope to buyers“, wrote the spokesman for the Iranian Oil Ministry, Saman Ghoddoosion social media.
Bessent said on Thursday that the US could lift some sanctions on Iranian oil, meaning intended to respond to the rise in energy prices caused by the Israeli-North American attack on Iran.
It specified that this relief would only apply to Iranian oil stored on ships in the high seas.
The blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, through which about a fifth of the world’s oil and gas trade flowed, and attacks on energy infrastructure caused a sharp rise in energy prices.
The US Treasury’s measure in relation to Iranian oil comes after, last week, it was also stored on ships at sea for 60 days — a tough decision, Friedrich Merz.
“At the moment There is a price problem, but not a supply problem. And in that sense, I would like to know what other factors led the US government to make this decision,” said Merz.
Khamenei proclaims victory
This Friday, Iran’s new supreme leader, Mojtaba Khameneiproclaimed the victory over the United States and Israel in the ongoing war, in a message written on the occasion of the Persian new year, Noruz. “Due to the special unity that has been forged among you, our compatriots, the enemy has been defeated”, he declared, in a message addressed to the Iranian population.
Mojtaba Khamenei has not yet appeared in public since he was appointed to succeed his father, Ali Khamenei, who was killed in an airstrike on the first day of the conflict, on February 28.
In the same message, the Iranian leader rejected any responsibility of the country in recent attacks against Oman and Turkey.
“I insist that the attacks that took place in Turkey and Oman were in no way carried out by the armed forces of the Islamic Republic or other forces of the Resistance Front,” said Khamenei, who further suggested, without providing evidence, that the attacks may be linked to Israel.
