The Minister of Racial Equality, , stated this Saturday (21) that the complaint by the (Attorney General’s Office) against the former minister, accused of sexual harassment, is an encouragement for women who are living or who have experienced episodes of denouncing their aggressors and “not suffering in silence”.
the complaint was filed on March 4 and is signed by the attorney general, . The process takes place under secrecy at the (Supreme Federal Court) and is led by the minister.
Contacted on Friday (20), the defense of the former Minister of Human Rights stated that the case remains confidential and reaffirmed previous statements. Silvio Almeida has been arguing that the accusations have no materiality and that they are conclusions.
In October 2024, in a statement to the Federal Police, Anielle confirmed that she was sexually harassed by the former government minister (PT) — a report she had already made to people close to her.
This Saturday, on social media, she also said that the complaint “is another stage in the recognition of the truth”.
“I continue to trust in Justice and believe in all the efforts of our government, the Judiciary, Parliament and society so that we have a country free from violence, where girls and women can be free, safe and live in dignity, without being afraid of being who they are, regardless of where they are, who they are or the position they occupy”, wrote the minister.
In the complaint, Gonet states that there is evidence that supports Anielle’s report. Among the testimonies that corroborate the minister’s statements is that of the director general of the Federal Police, Andrei Rodrigues.
Andrei participated in the May 2023 meeting at the headquarters of the Ministry of Racial Equality in which Almeida allegedly harassed Anielle. The director general was interviewed in the case and, according to the PGR, gave a report in line with that described by the minister.
According to the complaint, Andrei says he felt Anielle was very down after the meeting and made strong comments, such as “I couldn’t take it anymore.” At the time, she would not have mentioned Almeida’s name, but she left the meeting upset, reporting discomfort.
The incident occurred last November by the PF and was based on suspicion of sexual harassment against Anielle and teacher Isabel Rodrigues. The PGR’s complaint, however, only addresses Anielle’s case.
According to the understanding highlighted by the Prosecutor’s Office, the second case was sent to the first instance to follow the jurisprudence of the , since, at the time of the events related to the teacher, Almeida was not a minister.
Added together, the sentences can result in ten years in prison.
