US President Donald Trump gave on Sunday Iran a 48-hour ultimatum to “fully open” the Strait of Hormuz. Otherwise, the United States will “strike and destroy” Iran’s power plants, informs TASR according to AP and AFP reports.
“If Iran DOES NOT COMPLETELY OPEN THE STRAIT OF HORMUZ WITHIN 48 HOURS from this exact moment, WITHOUT THREAT, the United States of America will attack and destroy many of their POWER PLANTS, STARTING WITH THE BIGGEST ONE!” Trump wrote in a post on his Truth Social network. It happened just a day after what the US president said about “ending” the war in the Middle Eaststates the Sky News station.
The blockade of the Strait of Hormuz by Iran, by which under normal circumstances, 20 percent of the world’s oil and gas supplies pass throughand numerous attacks on oil and gas infrastructure in the Middle East caused a sharp increase in energy prices. Iran effectively closed this strategic strait in response to US-Israeli attackswhich forced countries dependent on this sea route to seek alternative routes and draw on supplies.
