Economic researchers can predict many things; the unleashing of a war that paralyzes global energy supplies is not. Likewise, it is currently impossible to know whether the Iran war and the associated closure of the Strait of Hormuz will remain a short episode or plunge the global economy into another deep crisis. In any case, the risks have increased, although one has to differentiate carefully between the different consequences of war for the economy.
