Oscar Schmidtdied Friday (17) after a cardiorespiratory arrest, had been fighting a new tumor since 2025, which led to a third surgery. The revelation was made by Felipe Schmidt, son of the legendary basketball player, in an interview with Fantasticyes TV Globo.
“As you all followed, he, through many years of chemotherapy, radio (…) Last year, we discovered a new mass, very small, a grade 4 tumor. Right away, we decided to operate. My father decided,” said Felipe.
According to his son, Oscar, who has suffered from cancer since 2011, left with many consequences. “He was never quite the same again, because the third operation was on the other side of the brainso the brain couldn’t compensate much (…). But he was there, he was very present,” he said.
Despite the suffering, Felipe said that Oscar never gave himself up. “He fought too hard, I could see he was trying. But this is an unfortunate disease. When it reaches this level, we cannot determine the time and, unfortunately, “, he declared.
