Mission Artemis II advances on April 1st. NASA does not hide that the initiatives are to implement national space policy.
A humanity really go to go back has Lua. Four astronauts: Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover and Christina Koch, from NASA, and Jeremy Hansen, from the Canadian Space Agency.
These will be the crew of the Artemis IIthe first mission with astronauts aboard the Orion capsule. The first launch attempt towards the Moon will be on April 1st; will be at most four attempts, between the 1st and 6th of April.
This Tuesday, Jared Isaacman, NASA administrator, said that the US space agency is entering a new era, in which it will attempt to establish a permanent base on the lunar surface.
In this new schedule, Artemis III – scheduled for 2027 – will focus on testing integrated systems and operational capabilities in Earth orbit, before the landing of Artemis IV.
NASA will begin incorporating more reusable, commercially purchased equipment to fly frequent, affordable crewed missions to the lunar surface. The idea is to carry out landings every six monthswith the potential to increase frequency as capabilities mature.
And there will be a phased approach to building a lunar base. The Gateway, in its current format, will be suspended; efforts focused on infrastructure that enables sustainable surface operations.
The construction of this lunar base will be implemented in three phases: the first is “build, test, learn”; the second is to establish the initial infrastructure; the last is to confirm that men can be on the Moon in the long term.
NASA also wants to “ensure the American presence in low Earth orbit”, promote discoveries that “transform the world with current and developing scientific missions” and lead a country, the USA, that “is committed to using nuclear energy in space”.
All of this is, the agency itself admits, “initiatives to achieve United States national space policy.”
It is “a series of transformative, agency-wide initiatives designed to realize President Donald J. Trump’s National Space Policy and advance American leadership in space. These actions reflect the urgency of the moment, but also the enormous opportunity it presents for science and discoveries that will change the world.”
Or, as , it was an advertisement for “fulfill Trump’s wishes” – who had told Jared Isaacman to design a plan that would ensure US superiority in space.
Thus, NASA plans to establish a permanent base on the Moon by 2031 and place nuclear reactors there.
