The Municipal Executive of São Brás de Alportel approved the continuation, in 2026, of the municipal program “Vale + Animal”, an initiative that aims to encourage the adoption of abandoned animals and reinforce intervention in the area of animal causes.
According to the municipality, this is a measure that “aims to encourage the adoption of abandoned animals and reinforce the Municipality’s commitment to the animal cause”.
“Vale + Animal” program maintains incentive for adoption
Created in 2021, the program is the result of a partnership with Associação Coração 100 Dono and includes granting support to those who adopt animals, especially dogs.
Adopters receive a support kit that includes “a voucher worth 30.00 euros, to purchase healthcare or food for the animal”, which can be used in local businesses.
Adoption also guarantees free access to various care at the Municipal Veterinary Office, namely “filling out the health report, microchip application, deworming, rabies vaccination and sterilization”.
Since its creation, the initiative has supported dozens of families, promoting “responsible adoption and animal welfare”.
Municipality prepares to extend the measure to cats
The Municipality is preparing to expand the program to other species, namely felines, and is also evaluating the reinforcement of existing support.
“The extension of the measure to felines and the possibility of including new benefits are being prepared,” says the city hall.
