Tarcísio says he wasn’t surprised by Ratinho Júnior’s withdrawal

According to the governor, the decision was already expected and now it is up to the PSDB to decide the pre-candidate in the ‘next few days’

The governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), said this Tuesday (24) that was not surprised to learn of Ratinho Júnior’s withdrawal (PSD) to run for President of the Republic in the elections in October. “I had the feeling that he would not be a candidate, it was only confirmed,” said the governor during an event at Praça Charles Miller, in front of the Paulo Machado de Carvalho Stadium, known as Pacaembu.

According to Tarcísio, Ratinho Jr.’s decision. was already expected and that it is now up to Gilberto Kassab, president of the PSD, to decide the party’s representative to be the candidate for the election. “PSDB must choose in the next few days who the candidate will be”, he concluded.

The president of the PSD, Gilberto Kassab, stated that the party will define at the end of March the name of the candidate who will represent the party in the 2026 presidential contest. Now, with the withdrawal of Ratinho Júnior, the choice will be made between governors Ronaldo Caiado (Goiás) and Eduardo Leite (Rio Grande do Sul). According to interlocutors, Kassab is studying possible electoral scenarios and has already designed the future of each of the politicians.

Ratinho Jr. reported that in a statement published on Monday (23). “Governor Ratinho Junior decided to complete his term in Paraná by December of this year”, says the text. “Therefore, he no longer participates in the internal discussion of the PSD (Social Democratic Party), which will choose a candidate willing to run in this year’s presidential elections”, he adds.

The text says that the decision was taken on Sunday night (22) after “deep reflection with your family”. “Ratinho is convinced that he must maintain his commitment to the people of Paraná in the 2018 elections and cannot interrupt the project that has guaranteed the cycle of economic growth in Paraná”, says the note. The president of the PSD, Gilberto Kassab, was informed on Monday.
