The governor of Rio Grande do Sul, (), stated this Wednesday morning (25) that he is the party’s only pre-candidate for President that breaks with the polarization between Bolsonarists and PT members.
He traveled to São Paulo to meet with the president of the PSD, in the late afternoon and defend his pre-candidacy. With Ratinho Junior, Kassab must choose between Leite and the governor of Goiás, (PSD), to represent the party in the electoral race.
Leite said that the expectation for the conversation is positive, because many in the PSD want to build a “new field”. “There is no candidacy for the center,” he stated.
The governor stated that he never joined the Bolsonaro or PT sides and that, therefore, he is the only one in the party with the legitimacy to build an alternative candidacy.
Leite also said that the election will be defining for the PSD, which for the first time will present a candidate for President.
“The PSDB has to decide whether it will defend pardon, amnesty, or whether it will be the party that will talk about a different Brazil, without adherence to one pole or another.”
Without mentioning Caiado directly, but referring to him, the governor stated that a candidate who gravitates towards one of the camps offers no alternative to voters and will not be electorally successful.
Leite also said that, if he is not chosen by the party, he will not run for the Senate and will end his term in Rio Grande do Sul.
