Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko arrived in the North Korean capital Pyongyang on Wednesday, where he was welcomed by the local leader Kim Jong-un. This was reported by the North Korean agency KCNA, which also highlighted the relations between the DPRK and Belarus. TASR refers to Reuters.
- Lukashenko arrived in Pyongyang at the invitation of Kim.
- Kim welcomed the Belarusian delegation with a solemn ceremony.
- Lukashenko visited the mausoleum of former North Korean leaders.
- The aim of the visit is to deepen relations and cooperation between the countries.
The entire Belarusian delegation was greeted by Kim with a 21-gun salute, while Pyongyang citizens and schoolchildren waved the flags of both countries and a North Korean military honor guard marched, KCNA said.
Lukashenko then visited the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun in Pyongyang, where the bodies of former North Korean leaders Kim Il-sung and Kim Jong-il are kept. He paid his respects to the godless leaders, placing a bouquet sent by Russian President Vladimir Putin and a basket of flowers in his name at the mausoleum, KCNA added.
They deepen relationships
The North Korean agency has not yet provided any information about the negotiations between Lukashenko and Kim. The Belarusian news agency BelTA previously announced that the purpose of President Lukashenko’s two-day visit is to deepen relations between the countries and “identify key areas of mutual interest and the most promising projects for implementation.” The leaders were supposed to sign several agreements.
Lukashenko was invited to the DPRK by its leader Kim Jong-un. The couple met in September 2025 in Beijing at a military parade.
