Kuwait detained six persons connected to Hezbollah who, according to the authorities, were preparing assassinations of the highest representatives of the state and recruiting other accomplices.
The Kuwaiti Interior Ministry announced on Wednesday that it had detained six people linked to the pro-Iranian Lebanese militant movement Hezbollah. According to the department, they planned to carry out “assassinations” in the country, TASR reports based on a report by the AFP agency.
The detainees planned “assassinations targeting symbols and leaders of the state and recruited people to carry out these missions,” the ministry said in a statement. It added that five of them are Kuwaiti nationals.
AFP reports that this is at least the third time in recent weeks that people linked to Hezbollah have been detained in Kuwait. Last Wednesday, the country confirmed the detention of ten members of this Lebanese militant movement, who were allegedly planning attacks on key infrastructure. On March 16, Kuwait also announced the detention of 16 people who, according to local authorities, were planning sabotage actions. Among these persons were two Lebanese and 14 Kuwaitis, AFP reminds.
