Sánchez appeals to the patriotism of the groups to support the anti-crisis decree
The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, appealed this Thursday to the “patriotism” of the Congressional groups to ask them to support the royal decree law on measures to alleviate the consequences of the war in the Middle East. “There is no greater sign of patriotism than contributing with your vote to easing the electricity bill for millions of households or guaranteeing the future of thousands and thousands of small and medium-sized businesses,” he defended in his speech at the VI Economic Forum of elDiario.es, while trusting that “all parliamentary forces are up to the historic moment we are going through.”
There are times when politics “is reduced to the essentials,” he noted, as is the case this Thursday with the vote on the anti-crisis decree, which includes measures such as lowering the VAT on electricity, gas and oil and which is expected to go ahead.
The president recalled that “from the first minute” the Government demanded “peace”, but at the same time it dedicated itself to “helping our people”, something it can do thanks to the solidity of the economy, which provides “the necessary muscle and the necessary fiscal capacity to be able to face these attacks”.
“The Government has a pro-European perspective,” defended Sánchez, who has urged people to make “brave decisions” based on “responsibility, ambition and high-mindedness” to achieve a more autonomous and solid Europe that serves to “inspire” others. In this ambition, “Spain has sufficient credentials” to contribute to the debate “from a position of leadership and well-earned example,” the president highlighted.
Among the great challenges he mentioned was completing the internal market -without “deregulating”, he pointed out-; reinforce public goods, for example with a common army; strengthen sovereignty and shore up the social pillar. (EFE)
