There will be no embers on the main uniform, says CBF president

The CBF confirmed this Thursday (26th March 2026) that the main uniform of the Brazilian men’s football team will not have the inscription “Brasa” on the socks. The entity’s president, Samir Xaud, told ESPN that the piece will only contain the word “Brazil”. Nike, the brand responsible for developing the team’s uniforms, had negative repercussions when it introduced the nickname.

The decision was taken after the supplier’s promotional materials disclosed the use of “Brasa” as part of an advertising campaign for the pre-World Cup period. According to Xaud, the current administration did not participate in all the definitions of the campaign, inherited from the previous administration, and chose to wait for the public’s reaction before taking a position.

“There will not be ‘Brasa’ on our main uniform. Our name is ‘Brazil’, and this is a matter of respect for our flag and our identity”said the leader.

Xaud stated that he was surprised by the proposal. According to him, the initial version presented to the confederation did not include the inscription, although the advertising campaign was already planned. Xaud reinforced that the CBF reviewed the case internally before dropping the hammer.

“This was done in relation to Nike for this advertising campaign alone, but I make it clear that our uniform is our mantle, it is green and yellow, I always make that clear, and there will not be this issue of ‘Brasa’”stated the president.

The controversy surrounding the term adds to other recent discussions about the team’s visual identity. Xaud mentioned that changes considered outside the historical standard have already been blocked by the current administration.

The reserve uniform will feature , linked to former basketball player Michael Jordan. According to the president, the inclusion is part of an internationalization strategy and will not be present on the main shirt.“In the internationalization process, this is important to bring credibility to the CBF and the national team, bringing in large partners. We saw (the use of the Jordan Brand logo) as a strategic marketing issue, so much so that there is no [o logo] in the yellow shirt”these.

The new reserve uniform will be used this Thursday (26th March), in Brazil’s friendly against France, in Boston (USA). The main model debuts in another friendly match that will be played on Monday (31 March) against Croatia, in Orlando (USA). The team still faces Panama in May.
