I still remember how we sat in the editorial office in 2024 with our mouths open, staring at the demo videos created with OpenAI’s Sora. We had just gotten halfway used to ChatGPT when it seemed as certain as a prayer that Sam Altman and his team would change the world with video AI just as they had with the famous Large Language Model. But nothing comes of it: OpenAI is officially turning off Sora. This applies to the app for end users as well as to the developer version. It remains unclear whether further development of the underlying AI model will also be stopped.
