Gdansk has a new direct connection with Bratislava and Poprad. WizzAir and Ryanair flights are supposed to support tourism, trade and personal contacts between Slovakia and Poland.
On Thursday, the airlines WizzAir and Ryanair launched new direct routes from Gdansk to Bratislava and Poprad, which are supposed to support mobility, tourism, business contacts and people-to-people ties between Slovakia and Poland. On this occasion, the ambassador of the Slovak Republic Andrea Elscheková Matisová visited the capital of northern Poland, informs the Warsaw correspondent TASR based on Friday’s embassy report.

According to the ambassador, the new air connections represent an important step in the development of bilateral relations. “This is an important impetus for the further convergence of countries, people and regions,” said Elscheková Matisová. At the same time, she pointed out the possibilities of developing business, cultural and academic contacts.
Cooperation meetings
During the visit, she negotiated with representatives of the city and the region about the development of transport links, investments and cooperation at the regional level. The topics were also energy, infrastructure and the growing importance of Gdańsk as a logistics hub.
According to the participants, the interviews confirmed mutual interest in deepening cooperation, especially in the field of tourism, business missions and self-governing partnerships between Slovakia and Pomerania.
Meaning of airport
At the same time, the ambassador drew attention to the importance of the local airport within the entire country. “It is the third largest airport in Poland by the number of passengers,” she said, adding that it handled around 7.5 million passengers last year, an increase of around ten percent year-on-year. It offers almost a hundred regular connections to 27 countries.
According to Elscheková Matisová, the inclusion of Bratislava and Poprad among these destinations expands the possibilities of economic cooperation and strengthens the connection between Slovakia and the north of Poland.
Vernissage and the Slovak community
Part of the program on the occasion of the launch of the lines was also the opening of the “Smer Slovensko” exhibition, which presented the work of deaf photographers Adam and Matej Kováčov at the airport. The ambassador also met with representatives of the Slovak community who live and work in the region.
