Thousands of people have lost their lives throughout the , which was triggered on February 28 after the strikes and against Iranian targets. The conflict triggered a barrage of Iranian retaliation against Israel, US bases and Gulf states, while opening a new, bloody front in Lebanon.
Here are the latest figures on the death toll (note that Reuters has not independently confirmed the numbers):
Iran
Human rights group HRANA (based in the US) reported on Wednesday that 3,300 people have been killed since the start of the war. Among them, 1,464 civilians, including at least 217 children.
At the same time, Iran’s ambassador to the UN spoke of at least 1,500 civilian deaths from the American-Israeli attacks. It remains unclear if the numbers include the 104 killed in the attack on an Iranian warship off Sri Lanka (March 4).
Lebanon
The country’s authorities report 1,094 dead from Israeli strikes since March 2, among them 121 children.
Iraq
At least 88 dead. The majority belonged to the Shiite Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), while on March 24 six Kurdish Peshmerga fighters were killed in Erbil in an attack blamed on Iran. Also, a foreign sailor died in an attack on tankers.
Israel
Iranian missile attacks have killed 16 people, while the army announced the loss of three soldiers in southern Lebanon. An Israeli farmer was also killed by “misfire” on the border, as well as the death of a woman in northern Israel on March 24.
United States
13 members of the armed forces have been killed: six in the crash of a supply plane over Iraq and seven during operations against Iran.
Gulf States & Other Countries
- United Arab Emirates: 10 dead from Iranian attacks (including two soldiers).
- Qatar: 7 dead (4 Qataris, 3 Turks) from a helicopter crash due to technical failure during patrol.
- Kuwait: 6 deaths, two of which from Iranian strikes.
- West Bank: 4 Palestinian women killed by an Iranian missile.
- Syria: 4 dead in Sweden by an Iranian missile (February 28).
- Oman: 3 dead in total. The first casualties were reported inside the country (Shohar province) by drone, despite the fact that Oman was hosting mediation talks.
- Saudi Arabia: 2 dead in the city of Al-Kharj from a projectile fall.
- Bahrain: 3 dead from Iranian attacks (including a Moroccan UAE contractor).
- France: One French soldier dead and six wounded after drone attack in northern Iraq.
