A Cedar Mining is carrying out a significant expansion of its operations in Mariana (MG), with an estimated investment of R$3.5 billion.
The project aims to increase production capacity to 10 to 11 million tons in the next three years. The company has already started work and signed a contract take or pay with Vale.
The focus of the expansion is on pellet feed direct reduction, known as , which emits 50% less carbon in the steel industry. This sustainable difference is seen as strategic by the company, which is betting on the growing value of this type of product in the global market, especially in a scenario of greater pressure for decarbonization.
Ambitious growth plan
The company has even bolder plans for the future. After acquiring significant assets in the region of Itabirito (MG) and Ouro Preto (MG), which are already in the licensing phase, the company plans to reach more than 20 million tons of production from 2032 onwards. This volume would place it among the three largest mining companies in Brazil.
In an interview with the program É Negócio, presented by Carlos Sambrana, which will air this Sunday (29), at 8:45 pm on CNN Brasil, Lucas Kallas, president of Conselho Cedro Participações stated that the company has diversified its investments into other sectors. “In the last five years the group has generated a lot of cash, and mining is how I joke, that’s why it’s called a mine, you can’t find it anywhere”, explained the company representative.
The company built six 50 megawatts, developed the largest irrigated coffee plantation in Brazil in the central-north region of Minas Gerais and invested in the real estate sector, exchanging land with large construction companies in São Paulo, Goiânia and Belo Horizonte.
Focus on sustainability and logistics
Currently, the company is once again focusing its efforts exclusively on the iron mining sector, with an emphasis on sustainability.
One of the ongoing projects is the construction of an electric TCLD (Long Distance Belt Conveyor) in Mariana (MG), which will allow for the removal of between 4,000 and 5,000 trailers from the highways.
He reinforced his belief that “there is no way in the world to follow this”, indicating that the company’s strategy is aligned with global trends in the sector.
