Mercadona’s expansion in Portugal continues in 2026, with the opening of three new supermarkets, at a time when the Spanish chain is strengthening its presence in the country and looking for new workers. The central point is clear: new stores, more jobs and arrival in areas where it was not yet present, with salary options considered attractive.
The company announced that it will open new supermarkets in , in the municipality of Moita, in Vila Real and in Beja, with openings scheduled for the coming months.
According to information released by the brand itself, the Alhos Vedros store should open in August, while the Vila Real and Beja stores are scheduled to open in September. In the case of Vila Real and Beja, this is the chain’s first store in these districts.
Mercadona reinforces its presence in the country
With these new openings, Mercadona continues to consolidate its presence in Portugal, where it already has around 70 stores. The company’s strategy involves gradual expansion, focusing on new regions and strengthening the existing network. The arrival in districts such as Vila Real and Beja marks a new step in this growth, taking the chain to areas where it did not yet have a direct presence.
Company is already recruiting
In parallel with the new stores, Mercadona also announced the opening of job vacancies for supermarket operator roles.
Offers include 20-hour working weeks, with shifts spread over five days and fixed shifts. In these cases, the gross annual remuneration starts at R$7,646 and can reach R$10,457, including food allowance, Sundays and holidays.
There are also options for 15 hours a week, concentrated on weekends. For these hours, the gross annual salary starts at 5,734 euros and can reach 7,843 euros, also with the respective associated allowances.
Effective contracts and training included
According to the company, all vacancies include a permanent employment contract and a paid training period from the first day. During this phase, food and transport expenses are covered by Mercadona, and there is no need for candidates to travel outside their area of residence.
The opening of these stores comes at a time when the chain continues to invest in the Portuguese market, combining territorial expansion with reinforcement of local teams.
