Yemen's Houthis enter the scene: they announce a first attack with "military objectives" in Israel

Yemen joins the conflict in the Middle East. The country’s Houthi insurgency announced this Saturday its joining the war in Iran with the launch of its first missile since the beginning of the conflict a month ago.

Yemeni forces traditional allies of Tehran, have finally confirmed this morning what: the beginning of an operation “in support of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the resistance fronts in Lebanon, Iraq and Palestine, and in view of the continued military escalation, attacks on infrastructure and the perpetration of crimes and massacres against our brothers.”

Thus, the Yemeni forces have ended up announcing “the first military operation with a bombardment of ballistic missiles directed against sensitive military targets of the Israeli enemy in the south of occupied Palestine.” Although he already warned that he would help his ally if the situation required it.

“This operation,” the Houthis add, “coincided with the heroic operations carried out by the Mujahideen brothers in Iran and Hezbollah in Lebanon, and the operation successfully achieved its objectives thanks to Almighty God.” The Israeli Army has limited itself to confirming the interception of at least one missile in the south of the countrywhose appearance in the airspace triggered alarm in Beersheba.

The insurgents, in command of the capital of Yemen, Sanaa, and large regions of the country for a decade, have missiles and drones capable of reaching southern Israel through the Red Sea or over Saudi Arabia or Jordan, whose defenses are currently dedicated to shooting down Iranian projectiles.

“Our operations, with the help of Almighty God, will continue until the declared objectives are achieved and until the aggression on all resistance fronts ceases,” the Houthis conclude.

During this Saturday morning, Kuwait International Airport has been the target of multiple drone attacks which has caused significant damage to its radar system. Fortunately, there have been no casualties, as reported by the state news agency KUNA, which cites the Civil Aviation Authority of that country.

The Yemeni insurgency is no stranger to direct conflict against Israel. During the Gaza war, the Houthis mounted a double campaign of attacks, first against Israeli territory and then against shipping. Between March and May 2025, the US began a month of bombing against Yemeni territory until the signing of a precarious ceasefire agreement with Omani mediation.

This past Thursday, the leader of the Houthis, Abdul Malik al Huti, advanced the group’s intentions. “In the slightest event that requires a military response, we will intervene without hesitation, as we have done on previous occasions”he stated in statements collected by the news agency Sabacontrolled by the Yemeni rebels themselves.

In this sense, he assured that “Yemen will not hesitate to fulfill its duty against the tyrants of our time:”. “I declare that we will not hesitate and will fulfill our Islamic duty of jihad, following the path of God.”

“If a military response is necessary, we will comply completely,” he added before emphasizing that The insurgents’ position is “clear and explicit, harboring no bad intentions.” Thus, he ended by calling on “all countries of the Islamic world to unite and put an end to Zionist aggression and the American tyranny that threatens the entire region.”
