Houthi rebels claim missile attack on Israel

Offensive marks the entry of the group that controls regions south of Yemen into the war in the Middle East

Yemen’s Houthi rebel group said this Saturday (28 March 2026) that it launched a missile at Israel. This action marks the group’s entry into the war that already involves Iran, the United States, Israel and the Lebanese extremist group Hezbollah.

“The Yemeni Armed Forces, with the help of Almighty God and trusting in God, carried out the first military operation using a volley of ballistic missiles against sensitive Israeli military targets in southern occupied Palestine.”reported the rebel group that occupies the southern region of Yemen.

The Houthis are part of the so-called “axis of resistance” which brings together Iranian-aligned militias in at least 4 countries. The group has Iranian support and has carried out several attacks against Saudi Arabia, another enemy of Iran.

The IDF (Israel Defense Forces) reported this Saturday (28 March) on its Telegram channel that it had identified the launch of a missile coming from Yemen and that its anti-aircraft defense system intercepted the attack. The Houthis’ last attack on Israel was in September 2025.

The war in the Middle East this Saturday (28 March). The confrontation led by the USA, Israel and Iran has already consumed the entire region, including the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz and attacks on American bases in countries such as Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Bahrain. Energy infrastructures in these countries have also been attacked by Iran.

An effective entry by the Houthis into the war could strangle another maritime route in the Middle East, this time the Bab al-Mandab crossing in the Red Sea. In the history of the rebel group, several attacks have been recorded on vessels passing through the area.

The Bab al-Mandab Strait gained even more importance after the blockade of Hormuz and became the main gateway for goods to and from Saudi Arabia.
