Minister stated that the purpose of the information is “to protect the necessary controlled environment”
Minister of the Federal Supreme Court Alexandre de Moraes determined that the defense of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) clarify which members of his security team are also part of the (Institutional Security Office). The decision was published this Monday (March 30, 2026). Here is it (PDF – 111 kB).
Moraes cited article 21 of the STF’s Internal Regulations, which deals with the rapporteur’s duties, to justify the request. He further stated that the objective is “safeguard the necessary controlled environment”.
The Institutional Security Office coordinates the Presidential Security Secretariat, responsible for the personal security of the president and vice president. Its members are, for the most part, military personnel from the Armed Forces.
Active military personnel cannot carry out private paid work, including private security, as provided for in . Section 18 of article 117 prohibits civil servants from carrying out activities that are incompatible with their position or function and working hours.
At Moraes’ request, Bolsonaro’s defense sent the names of employees who work at the former president’s residence. The list includes security officers, drivers, maids and a manicurist.
BOLSONARO HOUSE ARREST
Bolsonaro has been under temporary house arrest for 90 days since Friday (27 March 2026), after being discharged from a case of bacterial bronchopneumonia in both lungs, considered serious by doctors. This is the third time he has had pneumonia, this being the most severe. He was hospitalized for 14 days at the DF Star hospital, in Brasília.
In the decision that authorized home care, Moraes stated that, according to medical literature, the total recovery time for both lungs of an elderly person (the former president is 71 years old) can vary from 45 to 90 days.
“After this period, the presence of the necessary requirements for maintaining humanitarian house arrest will be re-analyzed, including medical expertise, if necessary.“, said the minister. Read (PDF – 790 kB).
The rapporteur also determined:
- use of an electronic ankle bracelet;
- residents of the house (Michelle Bolsonaro, Laura Bolsonaro and Letícia Marianna Firmo da Silva) do not need authorization;
- visits from the children (Flávio, Carlos and Jair Renan Bolsonaro) authorized on Wednesdays and Saturdays, from 8am to 4pm, with breaks;
- other visits suspended for 90 days, except lawyers and doctors;
- medical care without the need for prior authorization;
- possibility of hospitalization without a court decision, if medically indicated;
- prohibition of using cell phones or other means of external communication;
- retention of visitors’ cell phones by agents;
- prohibition of the use of social networks and dissemination of images.
