Memorandum on enhanced cooperation

“The Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, Andrej Babiš, and the Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic, Robert Fico (Smer-SD), will sign the Memorandum on enhanced cooperation between the Government of the Czech Republic and the Government of the Slovak Republic,” the Czech Cabinet announced on its website.

The first joint meeting of the governments of Slovakia and the Czech Republic took place in 2012 in Uhorské Hradiště as an expression of the extraordinary relations between the two states.

The last intergovernmental consultations, which were planned for the turn of April and May of 2024, did not take place. The Czech government at the time interrupted them on the grounds that it did not agree with some steps taken by the Slovak government in the field of foreign policy. It concerned the attitude of the Slovak Republic to the war in Ukraine. Previously, the governments negotiated in April 2023 in Trenčín. Eight such joint sessions have been held so far.
