The MPF sent the case of Fabiana Bolsonaro (PL-SP)investigated on suspicion of racism and transphobia, to assess possible jurisdiction before the investigation progresses.
The measure occurs after the MPF itself
According to the body, sending the procedure to PRR-3 aims to verify which instance is competent to handle the case, given her status as a state deputy.
The Regional Attorney’s Office of the Republic of the 3rd Region acts in cases involving authorities with forum prerogative within the scope of the TRF-3 (Federal Regional Court of the 3rd Region)which covers the states of São Paulo and Mato Grosso do Sul.
On March 18, during a session of Alesp (Legislative Assembly of São Paulo), the deputy reportedly held “blackface” — by painting his body with foundation to simulate black skin — and making discriminatory statements against federal deputy Erika Hilton (PSOL-SP).
The case was taken to the MPF by members of the PSOL Feminist Caucus, who pointed out possible crimes of racism and transphobia.
According to the deputy, she was carrying out a “social experiment” to question Hilton’s choice to preside over the Women’s Committee in the Chamber of Deputies.
Remember the case
When putting on makeup, Fabiana began her speech by saying: “I brought my mirror, I tied my hair, and here I’m going to do a social experiment.”
He then asked: “I, being a white person, living everything I experienced as a white person, now, at 32 years old, I decided to put on makeup, cross-dress as a black person. Have I become black?”
At the end of the speech, Fabiana Bolsonaro criticized the fact that federal deputy Erika Hilton became president of the Women’s Commission. “We saw now, this week, at the Federal Commission, there in Brasília, that a trans woman, Erika Hilton, was placed as president of the Women’s Commission […] a trans woman is taking away a woman’s space to speak. Just like several others are taking away”, he declared.
