The British Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, stated this Wednesday, 1, that the United Kingdom is “totally committed to NATO”, when asked about a comment by the President of the USA, Donald Trump, to the newspaper Daily Telegraphthat it would be considering withdrawing the country from the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
Starmer, who spoke to reporters, called NATO “the most effective military alliance the world has ever seen” but stressed that “whatever the pressure on myself and others, whatever the noise, I will act in the British national interest in every decision I make.”
Starmer also said the UK would host an international diplomatic conference this week on ways to restore safe navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to the premier, 35 countries signed a declaration, committing to work together to restore maritime security on the main oil transport route.
Starmer also stated that British Foreign Minister Yvette Cooper will lead a conference on the topic and that military planners are also developing security plans for a possible post-war scenario with Iran.
