Work has begun to stabilize the wall at Moledo beach, in Caminha

Work has already begun to stabilize the wall at Moledo beach, in Caminha, after the structure collapsed during the stormy season.

The wall ended collapse with the force of waterleaving a trail of destruction.

“The sea ended up taking much of the sand from the beach and [o paredão] Its foundations were completely exposed, ending up collapsing,” the mayor of Caminha, Liliana Silva, explained to SIC.

The work to stabilize the foundations, as a matter of urgency, has already begun. It will last a month and will be ready in time for swimming season. Until then, the area will remain closed.

This is just the first intervention of a larger and deeper intervention that should only begin at the end of summer.

“We are going to carry out a diagnosis of the area where the wall collapsed further south, see exactly what the condition of the wall is and then carry out a more definitive intervention”, informed José Pimenta Machado, president of the Portuguese Environment Agency.

Nonetheless, a competition will be launched for the workwhich should cost between 3 and 4 million euros.
