The US Defense Secretary has asked Army Chief of Staff General Randy George to resign and retire, CBS News reports citing well-informed sources.
According to CBS News, the US Secretary of Defense wants to fill the position with someone who will implement President Trump’s and Hegseth’s own vision for the US military.
The term of office of the head of the GES is usually four years. Randy George, 61 today, was nominated for the post by Trump’s predecessor, Joe Biden, and his nomination was confirmed by the Senate in 2023.
