Israel reports more missiles fired from Iran and warns residents to take shelter. A wider war in the Middle East threatens to resume.
The Israeli military announced on Monday morning that it had detected more rockets fired from Iran into Israeli territory. Tehran launched a missile attack on Sunday evening, and Israel responded by striking targets in western and central Iran. The AFP and AP agencies informed about it, writes TASR.
Israel’s military said on social media that it had “identified missiles fired from Iran” and was working to counter the threat. It urged the public to take refuge in shelters. Meanwhile, an explosion was heard over Jerusalem, according to an AFP journalist. Iran has not yet acknowledged the attack.
Directing attacks
A few hours earlier, the military announced that a missile fired from Yemen was headed for Israel. She did not provide details, but the Yemeni Houthi rebels are allies of Iran and in the past have attacked Israel and shipping in the Red Sea.
As a result of the new attacks, there is a threat of the renewal of a wider war in the Middle East, AP wrote. She reminded that Monday is the 100th day since the beginning of the war in Iran, which was triggered by the Israeli-American attacks on February 28. A cease-fire has been in effect since April 8, but efforts to negotiate a permanent peace have not yet been successful. In addition, Iran still blocks the important Strait of Hormuz and Israel is fighting the militant Hezbollah movement in Lebanon.
Trump’s challenge to Netanyahu
US President Donald Trump said on Sunday that he would call Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and urge him not to retaliate after Iranian missile attacks on Israel.
