Amazon announced on Thursday that it will impose a temporary 3.5% surcharge on fuel and logistics for third-party sellers as the company deals with high energy costs during the war in Iran.
The surcharge will apply to Amazon fulfillment in the US and Canada, as well as remote fulfillment shipping from the US to Canada, Mexico and Brazil.
Amazon has informed sellers that the measure will take effect on April 17 and follows similar fuel fee decisions by UPS and FedEx.
The US Postal Service is also set to temporarily raise prices for its shipping services by 8% on April 26.
“Similar to other large carriers, when costs remain high, we implement temporary surcharges on our fulfillment rates to recoup a portion of the actual cost increases we are experiencing,” Amazon said in a statement.
