Aircraft collided with a pole before crashing into a building on the coast of the state; the pilot was burned to death
A of a small aircraft over a building in the city of Capão da Canoa (RS), this Friday (April 3, 2026), leaving 4 dead. The plane collided with a pole before hitting a house. According to information from RBS TVthe residents of the affected property left safely. The pilot, Nélio Batista Pessanha, was burned to death.
Teams from the Rio Grande do Sul Fire Department and Military Brigade work at the site. The municipal government also provides support in the event.
The pilot of aircraft era Nelio Pestanason of journalist and undersecretary of Communication of Campos dos Goytacazes (RJ), Luiz Costa, and journalist Jô Siqueira.
Among the victims of the accident was a business couple Déborah Belanda Ortolani e Luis Antonio Ortolani. The two were members of the Ibitinga Fair, an embroidery and trousseau event in the interior of São Paulo. Luis Ortolani was also general manager of the Savol Kia dealership, in Santo André (SP).
Renan Saes, pilot and partner of the aviation company to which the aircraft belonged, also died in the accident.
The plane crash, in a residential area of the city, caused an explosion that hit neighboring houses. The fire was controlled by rescue teams. The area remains isolated for the aftermath work.
