The President of the United States, Donald Trump, stated this Saturday (4) that the Iran has 48 hours to reach an agreement or allow opening of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the main global oil transport routes.

The statement was made in a post on social media, in which Trump recalled having previously given Tehran ten days to negotiate. According to him, time “is running out” and, if there is no advance, the Iranians will face severe consequences.

“Remember when I gave Iran ten days to make a deal or open the Strait of Hormuz. Time is running out — 48 hours before all hell breaks loose,” Trump wrote.

O Strait of Hormuz is considered strategic for the global energy market, concentrating around 20% of the world’s oil flow. Any blockage or tension in the region tends to directly impact international commodity prices.
